Questions
About ATiS, Tank Watch and the tools on this site.
Does the app replace the MassDEP log?
No. Tank Watch keeps the same 21 checks as a working record on the phone, but it is not a MassDEP-approved form and its shared text carries no signature. Keep the signed MassDEP log, or another form MassDEP approves (note 4 of the log), on file; the entries can be copied onto it.
Does anyone receive my logs?
No. Logs stay on the phone. A log or a service request leaves only when you email, share or copy it yourself.
How long are logs kept?
MassDEP asks that tank inspections stay on file for at least 5 years. The app keeps every log until you delete it and warns before deleting one that is less than 5 years old.
Does the app tell me to climb the tank?
No. The monthly check is a ground-level check; binoculars can be used for the top. Climbing, roof work and tank entry follow OSHA rules and your system's safety program.
Does ATiS give prices in the app?
No. The app sends the request; ATiS answers it.
Which states does it cover?
The checks follow the Massachusetts guidelines. Other states set their own inspection rules; ask your state drinking water program.
Can the app be used for a tank outside Massachusetts?
Yes, as a record. Its checks follow the MassDEP log; the rules of the state where the tank is decide what is required.
Do the tools on this site keep what I type?
No. They work in your browser and keep nothing when you leave the page.
Is the turnover figure a water age?
No. It is the days a tank takes to exchange its volume. Water age inside a tank also depends on how it mixes.
