Monthly log
The monthly ground-level check
At least once a month, unless MassDEP approves otherwise in writing, the tank and its grounds get a ground-level inspection with a written, dated log (Chapter 8.1.22(2)).

Binoculars, not a climb
Climbing is not required for the monthly check; binoculars can be used for the top. Anyone who climbs follows OSHA safety rules.
A comment on every problem
Any answer that shows a problem or a coming problem gets a comment; photographs are recommended.
Kept five years
Tank inspections stay on file for MassDEP for at least 5 years, on MassDEP’s inspection reports or AWWA checklist formats (Chapter 8.1.22(5)).
